Pension
For couples select Yes if either or both are on a pension. For singles this selection doesn't impact the result.

Financial investment fields
For the financial investment fields enter the amount. Do not include a dollar sign or commas. For couples with one or both on a pension, enter the total amount for both people. For singles enter the amount for each financial investment field. For couples with neither on a pension, for the one person who requires the deeming amount, enter the financial investments for the person and also their share of the financial investments for the couple.

Superannuation
Superannuation is only included when a person can access the superannuation. For example for a couple, if one person has reached retirement and their superannuation can be accessed, their superannuation is an asset where deeming is applied. For the partner who has not yet reached retirement age and can't access their superannuation, their superannuation is not considered.

Deeming Amount
The results returned is the deeming amount based on the information provided on the Human Services site.

Deeming rates as at January 2025. Rates stayed at 0.25% for the lower tier and 2.25% for the upper tier. The Deeming Calculator has been updated to reflect the change.

Single first $62,600 @ 0.25%, rest @ 2.25%.
Couple with one on pension first $103,800 @ 0.25%, rest @ 2.25%
Couple with no one pension first $51,900 @ 0.25%, rest @ 2.25%

For each $1 in deemed income above the full pension limit, the total pension is reduced by $0.50 or 50 cents in the dollar. For a single pension the pension is reduced by 50 cents per $1. For a couple with a combined pension, the total combined pension is reduced by 50 cents per $1, which is 25 cents per $1 for each pension. If only one person in the couple is pension age, since they're the only one getting the pension, only their pension is reduced by 25 cents per $1, since the other person is not getting the pension, there can be no reduction for them.

This calculator only covers the basic situation. For example it does not cover couples separate by illness rental assistance. Hopefully I've included enough detail so you can calculate the pension for your situation.
